This is a variety of hibiscus - also called rose mallow or swamp hibiscus. The blooms are usually at least 8" across although the plant itself is compact and blooms in its first season. I found a whole grouping of mallows and hibiscus in front of an office building last week and couldn't resist.

Kathy, in nature beauty is often inversely proportional to size. This beautiful capture of a huge Hibiscus is a proof that an exception sometimes confirms the rule.
Fine subtle colors too. Very well taken!

It is a beauty Kathy. I saw some Hibiscus at the entrance to the Care Center where my mother lives yesterday. I wasn't sure what it was. Now I know. "Thanks."
I will post a photo of it sometime.
