It's true name is scaveola and it's an import from Australia and New Guinea. It grows about 8-10" tall and cascades so it does well in hanging baskets or planted along walls or rocks. Just starting to take hold in this country.

Kathy, of course you're right because the Scaevola is native to the coastal areas of Southwest Australia and belongs to the family Goodeniaceae. It's one of the few flowering plants that also thrives in a salty environment. The plant has spread through islands in the South Pacific (particularly Hawaii) to the tropical regions of the Americas, the Caribbean, Africa, and now Europe as well. In my country it can be only bought in a garden center.
Some other details: the Scaevola is named after Mucius Scaevola, a Roman who put his right hand into the fire to show how strong his faith was. He earned the nickname Scaevola, which means left-handed.
In my country it has the nickname 'elfenwaaier' ('elves fan') because of the unusual shape of the flower.
In Hawaii, the Scaevola is called 'Naupaka'. Legend has it that a woman tore the flower in half after an argument with her lover. The gods were so angry about this that they cut all the Naupaka flowers in half and the lovers were forever separated. The man must search in vain for a whole flower forever.
Thanks for this very fine capture of this in my area still pretty unknown flower.

Great information from both you and SEA, Kathy. It does look like half a flower.
It is beautiful and once again you have shared a flower that I had never seen.
