My first fractal. Done in Apoph 2.05b then messed around with briefly in Photoshop CS2.

Started out as a portal, but I don't really know what it turned out to be, mostly just a flame symbol.

Here's Apoph only because I think the pillow emboss might distract too much from the fractal: Original

Constructive criticism would be nice, I don't care how crude I just want to get better. Thanks!

Also I'm using a very dark monitor so I'm not sure if it's too dark or light.

I'm no expert (obviously), but this looks pretty good to me. I didn't look at the raw flame - not yet, anyway - but I like the embossed effect on the flame. These aren't my favourite colours, but I think they work well here. Personally, I would feel an urge to flip this if it were on my desktop, but it all depends on set-up (and, partly, OS which is obviously related). I like the shape of the flame with the nicely defined, structured centre with the three leaves/petals / tripartite symbol contrasting with the wild, chaotic parts on the outside (though this is clearly _stylised_ wildness, since the embossing alters any sense of motion etc., I think - but I like that).

I'm not so wild about the texture of the background. I find it a bit much with the embossing of the flame as well and rather distracting as a result. Not sure how it would look with a different one, of course, so it is hard to say for sure, but I might personally prefer it with something different. Not sure what to suggest, though, and I _am_ sure others will disagree, so take this qualification with the requisite dose of salt!

Angelle "Words are like crayons and paints. The only difference is you have to work harder to see their colors.

Thanks for the comments.

And after viewing this on a different monitor I do agree the background is too distracting. On my other screen it was a very faint texture, on a good monitor it's too strong.

Oh and I made my description easier to read, didn't notice I could use html.
