Did some creative sharpening on this. I won't say where or how, or at least not here. This guy was perched on a rock near a guy and his daughter fishing. They scared him up and figured he was gone, but in his haste, he had neglected to keep a look out for my ugly mug. I got this and a few other shots before he decided the guy with the noise maker snapping all those photos was annoying. Taken over the summer not too far from my home on the Potomac river.

Too bad it wasn't even sharper, but I should talk...I've never captured a bird sitting still, nevermind flying a blue streak...You certainly captured his eye very very clearly as he's definitely got some goal in mind :)PJ

rob, i think you got a shot of a green heron. i have a couple of shots of one (not in flight). they are a truely beautiful bird. is it about 15-16 inchs long? if it is , then that is what it is.
youdid a geat job of capturing it. very pretty and not a common sight.

Very nice shot Rob. It isn't easy catching a bird mid-flight, but you did a great job of it. Thanks for sharing it with us.

A tad out of focus but I'm thinking whatever sharpening you did do ... was quite effective. I've never been able to capture any bird in flight to my satisfaction. Had this been a shot I took ... you can bet I'd be proud as a peacock. I'm in agreement with photog024 above ... looks to be a Green Heron ... and it looks gorgeous against the water color here. Very nice capture Rob.

Just an old "Grampa" who still has a Kodak "Box" camera kicking around the attic ... learning and enjoying the wonders of modern digital photography.
