I wish I had the tag with me. If I remember correctly, this is called a falling lady orchid. I bought it a few days ago and like it very much. I can see how people get addicted to raising orchids.
this is a beaautiful picture rob. the black and red are great contrasts. as an old friend, i must say that i see a flaw. you blew out the white onn the rop flower slightly. i see it before i actually see the flower. great composition and lighting except for the top.
You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being.

Sweet colors and arrangement...I really don't think that the white is blown out...it's just white, but I'll pick no fights with Mr. Mike. It went into my flower folder, so I'm going to be able to look at it at will..thanks, my friend.
Well orchids are very beautiful flower Rob...But I imagine they take an awful lot of care to grow them. You have captured a beautiful image here...I really like your lighting of the subject...gerry

Lovely orchid shot! The popular name for these are 'dancing ladies' because they look like a lady with the lower petal that resembles a ladies dress. It's an oncidium orchid but perhaps the variety name for yours may be called 'falling'. You're right, collecting them can be extremely addicting...they call that 'Orchid Fever', lol. It's a myth that all orchids are hard to grow...the new hybrids are very easy and most can bloom a long time. At one time I had nearly 80 since in FL they can stay outside year round, but I've been "cured" of the fever and have cut my collection down to a more manageable 30 or so. ;)
How very beautiful this "lady" is...and the colours..how fortunate you are to have been able to get such a wonderful photo of this dancing lady....very very nice ..Verena
