And my Sierra Nevada backpacking trip photos continue. This is Mt. Humphreys on a monsoon day, located in the center of Humphreys basin, an absolutely enormous glacier basin consisting of high elevation, wide open spaces surrounded by huge mountains. Basins are awesome. Here is a cool view: Google Map. Mt. Humphreys is 3 miles away, and rises 3200 feet higher than me at 13,986 feet. What I really like about this shot is the combination of rock colors and shadows. The darkest colors on the mountain are not shadows, but rather a differently colored layer of rock. On top of that are shadows from clouds, it's an awesome effect.
