Stanage edge is a 4 mile stretch of gritstone forming part of a steep escarpment along the east side of Derwent valley. Below these edges are piles of millstones and grindstones abandoned in the nineteenth century following the introduction of cheaper imports. They would originally have been destined for corn mills and blade works.

Excellent! The random placement of the millstones really looks great as does the lighting and restful colors. It has a "Flintstones" look about it.

The scattered and abandoned look makes them feel like much older artifacts. Great subject matter and color.

Thanks for the history lesson! Where is this located? I really like the way they seem to be just thrown there.. but I bet they are REALLY HEAVY! Thanks for sharing this... I look forward to seeing more of your work. :-)
