This is a wedding photo of my grandparents of mothers side. Hundred years ago they have married. A century ago. At the time they married in black. Now is everything white. And much more coloured and more blooming. I find it, however, once nice something very differently to show. I have my grandmother never now and my father has died then I was 3 years old. Perhaps you find such a photo also sometimes nice.

It is in impeccable condition for the age Wil. Your framework adds to this wonderful piece. Very nicely presented. They are quite a charming couple also.

Wil, the photograph has become enormously beautiful. Then I opened the photograph I called WOW Granddad and Granny, because best all, this is our Granddad and Granny. You have treated him splendidly.

Wil, your presentation is wonderful and the sentiment attach is even nicer. For those who know their ancestors, this is a real gift. For those who don't, like myself, I'd be thrilled to know they looked like. This is a treasure! - Patty

Your restoration of the scanned image is really beautiful, Wil. I love old photographs more than just about anything. My grandfather was quite a well known photo journalist in the 20's - 40's. Unfortunately, he died before I was born. When I was very young, I would sit in front of my grandmother's bureau where she had all of his images stored and pour through them for hours. Later, when I learned photography and processing, I loved the smell of the chemicals. Digital takes that all away...Thanks for the memories. anne :-)

Hi Wil, what an interesting photograph.

I was looking at it for a while wen a question came to my mind. It is this:

If you look at how this marriage photo is arranged, I see similarities to what I always try to do: show only the rudimentary essence of what the image is meant to show the audience. Look at the black clothings, left is a male and right is a female, bonded together by marriage for eternity....
But did the photgrapher get to the point? I mean, look at the distance between the couple. Arms linked together, or they might loose each other already out of the picture.
As if marriage has not yet joined them together the way they problable did in the after years. As if marriage was just a formality... Strange or not?
Don't misunderstand my view, it's not critics, because all photo's from that era seemed to be composed similar. It's just curious to look at it in 2006!
A very interesting post,
Paul

I really like the way you put this together. It fits the style of the period really well. Very interesting image to study and see how things were done back then.

Your presentation of this wonderful photo is perfect. I have several such photos and you have inspired me to do some work on them.
Such a formal stance - they look a very handsome couple. This is a lovely tribute to them and the artistry of that long ago potographer.

What a wonderful photo. Whoever took it knew what they doing. Times were hard back then. Not a lot of smiles were seen in photos. But, they knew well, back then, how to keep a marriage together. They were not the "throw away" marriages of today. Again, this is a wonderfully restored and elagantly presented capture from the past.

I am a fan of the old pictures. The ones I have I treasure. Your Grandparents are beautifully framed here.I like the details such as the gloves & their wonderful clothes. There was a more formal serious setting for these old pictures - quite a difference in one hundred years. Nicely done in sepia and the framework fits the time. Thanks Wil, for taking us back in time :*>
