The history of a Bumble Bee: The bumblebee (also spelled bumble bee, also known as humblebee) is a flying insect of the genus Bombus in the family Apidae. Like the common honeybee, of which it is a relative, the bumblebee feeds on nectar and gathers pollen to feed its young. These creatures are beneficial to humans and the plant world alike, and tend to be larger and furrier than other members of the bee family. Most, but not all, bumblebee species are gentle]. A little bit history:Bumblebees are social insects that are characterized by a black body with yellow stripes, a commonality among the majority of the species of Bombus; however, some species are known to have orange or even red on their bodies, or may be entirely black[citation needed]. Another distinguishing characteristic is the soft nature of the long, branched setae, called pile, that covers their entire body, making them appear and feel fuzzy. Queen and worker bumblebees can sting. The sting is not barbed like that of the honeybee, so they can sting more than once. <Now you see my face>.

Thank you for the nice bit of science you've provided for us Wil. The colors are beautiful. I find the image a bit on the busy side (then of course, bees are busy critters!) I found myself having to search too hard to define Mr. Bee's body. The wings stand out very well and have great catch-lights on them. I like the framing effect but am not too crazy about the off centering of the raised portion. There are some good features in this image. I do like the dof very much. anne :-)

Don't tell me it's good, tell me what is good about it. Don't tell me it stinks, tell me what I can do do improve it. Thank you for taking the time to tell me anything at all. Be blessed. anne :-)

Thanks for the history. I like the shine of the wings and the color of the fur. Not seeing the head, it looks like pom poms surrounding the wings.

The colors are spectacular and I think your framing reallly makes this a perfect image. Of course, it is very focused and clear.
