This is a strange looking flower that grows in my backyard. It grows on a ficcus / fern type of tree. Thought it looked good enough to share. If anyone has any idea what it is, it would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy. Ty.

Dj

edit: This is, in fact, a Mimosa Tree. Thanks to all who helped educate me. :]

If you love something, set it free. It it comes back to you, it is yours. If it does not, it was never meant to be. Wil

I believe this is a blossom from a Mimosa Tree. They are quite beautiful when the tree is in full bloom.

Definitly a Fireworks Flower. This is the flower from which the idea for fireworks came (just kidding). Well, if it doesn't look like fireworks in action, I would like to know what does. I love those little (I don't know my flower parts that well) thing-a ma-jobbies on the ends of the purple spirals. Excellent capture.

Hi there Dj, what an awesome capture of the blossom from my favorite tree...the Mimosa Tree! We are trying to start some in the wooded area of our backyard. They are quite exotic looking, in my opinion! You captured this with such great clarity and intense detail. The color is good as well. Your description of the tree was quite good also angel :)
You had that macro fired up and ready to go...good job. This will definitely rest on my desktop for a few days so I can admire it's beauty and it is also going to go right into my favorites folder on my hard drive so I can see it on my screensaver slideshow . Thank you sweetie :~)

A beautiful photo of a beautiful flower. It's a mimosa. If that's correct, the frond-like leaves should fold up at night.

I'm so happy that you now know that it's a Mimosa tree. When they bloom, they're the most beautiful tree around. They only grow in moderate to warm climates. My mother-in-law had one in Vincennes in southern Indiana. Her sister-in-law kept trying to take a small one of hers up to Indianapolis to grow, but it was too cool and they wouldn't live. She was quite frustrated. They are a stunner, for sure. Lucky you!

Oh, one more thing! Michael's comment about the leaves at night --- the tree's leaves often remind me of a houseplant called the Sensitive Plant. If you would run your finger across its fronds, they would draw up tight. They, too, fold up at night. They are related... see http://www.plantoftheweek.org/week147.shtml

Wow..this does look like fireworks for flowers! We lived in the Philippines, and had several of the Mimosa Trees in our yard. This is the lovely bloom - looks like needles sticking up. The lush pink is very pleasing. Good detail to this beauty. Excellent work Dj-and nice to see you're an artist in the spotlite-Way to go!

Ohhhh a beautiful Mimosa blossom! I miss those trees, although we do have some up here in ORegon, but they don't seem to be as pretty as those where I lived in Louisiana. But I do love how you took such a lovely macro of this one. They even smell gorgeous !! I'm kinda suprised you didn't know the name of this tree. I do love the pollen at the tips of each pink part...making it look like fireworks! Another thing I loved about those trees, is that they were such a great climbing tree for all the kids. Easy to get up into..and nice branches to perch on..hehe..You took a most lovely photo of this, and I thank you for reminding me of one of the things I loved about living in the South....nice work...verena

Hi..I just now saw this photo of yours. We moved up here from Louisiana many years ago. One tree I LOVE is the Mimosa..they don't have them in Oregon. I love their blossoms, and they are so soft to the touch too. The trees are always so spread out, all kids love to climb in them, as the branches usually start real low to the ground. Ilove that you posted this. It sure does bring back memories. your photo is so sharp and just beautiful. I think they must have used this blossom to come up with fiber optics eh? I miss New Orleans and La. in general. Thanx so much, and I sure will keep this.Verena
