Have you ever tried Terragen or Bryce? Terragen is free for the unregistered version, and Bryce 5 is free until September 6. Expanding your horizon is fun, as I can attest.

Thanks for the comment on 'The First Step', I agree with you that computer generated landscapes aren't as good as the real thing, but they do let you make pictures at your desk ;)
