Everyone once in a while something happens that you can not explain. Such a thing happened to me and my wife in May of last year. We were westbound on our way to my cousin's funeral when we passed a lone figure walking alongside the road. A man was also headed west and when we passed him, I got the most unusual feeling. He was not hitchhiking and paid us no attention as we drove by him. His shoulders were slightly stooped as if he was carrying a heavy burden. He was wearing a small backpack and seemed to be in no hurry. It is difficult to describe the feeling that came over me. It was like I had just been in the presence of someone very special. I asked my wife if she had felt something when she saw the man and she too had a very unusual feeling. Neither one of us could explain it. We never saw his face and decided not to turn around and go back, because we felt he was just someone from the area out walking.

We took the same route home from the funeral and came upon this same lone figure and he had not made a lot of progress. This time we met him, and as I drove past him, he looked at me and it was as if he were looking right through me. Again I asked my wife if she saw what I did and she too was quite affected by the look of the man. I turned around and drove back. Several cars went by him and he never once attempted to catch a ride. He just walked slowly down the highway. When I drove up to him and got out of the car, there was such a calmness coming from him that it totally relaxed me. I visited with him and asked if he needed some money. He did not say he did, but I gave him some anyway. I asked if he would like a candy bar and he said that he would. I gave him a Milky Way and a bottle of tea, but he said he had some water and did not take the tea.

I did not question him other then ask his name and where he was going. He said his name was Dustin and he was walking from Massachusetts to Long Beach, California. I asked if I could take his photo and he agreed. I apologized that I was not going his way and it did nott seem to bother him at all. As I look back I wish I had asked more questions and had given him a ride the first time I saw him.

There was an aurora around him that I can not explain. He never asked for anything, he was not hitchhiking and seemed to be at peace with the world. He made me feel very peaceful as well. It was one of the most calming and pleasant encounters of my life.
