This picture shows The Jacobean architecture of Bessie Surtees house buit in the 16th 17th century It stands on Newcastle's Sandhill..The house is best known as the scene of the elopement of Bessie Surtees and John Scott, who later became Lord Chancellor.The plaque can be seen below the window,where the elopement took place.The arch way is part of the High Level Bridge. Designed by Robert Stephenson and built between 1847 and 1849 and still carries the main London to Edinburgh main Railway line..
