No this is not my nickname although it could be! This is a variety of Helenium which blooms in July - September when other things are fading. It is native to North America and Central America and it is considered one of our native prairie flowers. This one however is a hybridized cultivar. This one combines a dwarf growing habit with a longer bloom time. The bold orange and gold flowers have molasses-colored cones that draw butterflies summer to fall. Helenium is a large genus that is especially valuable because it delivers bold colors on sturdy plants that bloom in August and September, when few perennials are at their peak.
