As I mentioned in non-art website issues Two questions it seems as though ever since the image size changes and perhaps a couple of other modifications to the site we have been stuck on military time. That is to say, when you look at the time someone was online instead of reading, say 9:00 appears as 21:00. This is rather confusing to people that are unaccustomed to using this format. Why can't it be the way it was before, ie 9:00 reads 9:00, and so on and so forth. The last I heard Caedes wasn't run by the military, or the government for that matter. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Oh, and before Noah or someone else brings it up AGAIN, I know how to do the conversions. I just feel it's unnecessary and inconvenient to have it posted this way. And no, it can't be changed in your profile as mentioned earlier.

I've gotten used to it, primarily because my grandfather was career army and I learned the format early. I definitely think it should be a choice option however.
well i'm on the otherside of the earth.. and we don't use military time either... anyway.. i'm way ahead of you in the time zone so what ever time you guys have on here.. i've been there already.. ;) lol
when did a standard 24hr clock become a military one? 24hr time systems are not exactly uncommon these days and most computers use it as a default anyways....
In the U.S. it's generally referred to as "military time" because the military is the only widespread organization that uses it w/in the U.S. - and has done so for decades.
Hospitals (and many other medical areas) use the 24 hour clock so there is no confusion with the "AM" & "PM" in handwriting.
I prefer this method as it does avoid confusion, is easier to read at a glance and it is international.
Oh, and I learned this system waaaaaaaaaaay back in 1961!!! Now that is decades :)
Well, I don't care for the new format at all. Why aren't we being at least given the option to choose which format we prefer. Btw, it doesn't avoid confusion for me, just makes things more confusing.

Gee... no kidding. =\ I didn't think there was anything so unreasonable about asking for a format that everybody can easily read and understand without having to do conversions.

'The 24-hour clock is a convention of time-keeping in which the day runs from midnight to midnight and is divided into 24 hours, numbered from 0 to 23. This system is the most commonly used time notation in the world today'
well the 24hr system is pretty much worldwide as well as being the ISO international standard - nothing to do with metrics really and seeing as how the site is a community hosting members from all over the world it would seam to make more sense to use a system that is in use globally rather than one predominantly favoured just in northern america.
Phil, your quote does nothing to answer my question. As I stated earlier, I know how to make the conversions, it just seems like a big pain to have to convert from an existing system that is pretty much a standard here in the states. A lot of people don't like the international system. My clocks and watch aren't set to international time, and neither is my computer. I'm still waiting for a reply from Caedes himself. Why can't we have a choice? Btw DevArt has millions of members from all over the world, but yet they still give us the option of which time format we prefer. Now that's a democracy.

Larry, not to dismiss your dislike of the new format, but...maybe I'm missing something here. Other than using it to see when someone posted an image, or a comment, what significance does it have, really?
My watch sez 5:34, the clock in the kitchen sez 5:34, my computer sez 5:34, the clock on my cell sez 5:34. I don't know Rob, it's just kinda easier to see that you posted your comment at 5:24 without having to do the math.
Yes, for those that are about to ask, I did the math using my fingers & toes.
and… Rob… it's a feeling of familiarity… you know… like when they paint the house on the corner. Now you don't know where your turn is. Sure you can get used to it, but if you don't have to, why should you?
And why should a simple request about whether or not something is possible meet such resistance?
The bottom line is that I chose "hospital time" because it is more concise. In the comments we put the time below the person's icon and with the extra three characters it was often taking up too much room. I would be happy to add the option of showing 12-hour time (and reverse-hungarian time as well), but it just takes more work to put that option in the profile settings. Since this suggestion is already in the feature request forum you can be sure that it will be remembered when I'm adding new features to the site. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thank you Caedes, that's all I was asking, just the option for the 12 hr. time format. Rob, I just like the idea of being to look and see exactly what time my friends were online, without having to do the math every time. After all, I do have friends from all over the world here too. Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, Canada, and Belgium, as well as a couple of other countries. Cat, my mistake in calling Phil Sam, sorry Sam, and it's been edited to reflect that.

I work in a hospital and the "military time" Cat mentioned so to speak doesn't bother me...it's the date thang!! We don't do 02/05/07 for May 2nd...that's February 5th!! We still utilize a standard means of date...month/day/year format, not day/month/year. I'm unaware, so that's my fault, of other countries which in may utilize a different format. Americans are NOT always right and shouldn't be catered to. I just assumed, which makes an ass outta you & me I know, when I shouldn't have that, which was standardized throughout.
Zat make sense??

Hey, do the math.
ps: why is Wednesday spelled like that when we say it Wednesday??
To Rob ... I have talking watches, clocks & phones cuz I rate. And you're the second person who's narced on me to the general assembly in the last 2 days... I just didn't want to admit I counted using corn kernals. *snicker*
