Is it possible for the colours to be so different from one program to program? when editing with PE it looks fine but if I open in say ACDSee it looks really dark. I've been tweaking my monitor almost every time I turn it on.

PE? .. Photoshop Elements?

In photoshop, if you load an image, and then go to the EDIT menu\COLOR SETTINGS .. and make sure that sRGB blah blah blah is selected

also .. set your Monitor to the same ..

(Windows) .. right click on your desktop, choose properties, settings .. click the ADVANCED button ..

(what you find now may depend on your graphics card) .. look for COLOR MANAGEMENT (click it) .. click ADD .. and select sRGB color space profile (click add)

this will hopefully get everything on an even playing field .. (Look for the same feature in ACDsee)

sRGB is the Internet Standard for color display .. or somethin'

Some Light Reading for you .. especially Monitor Calibration by BRPhoto

Thanks Keifer! I did as you suggested...can't find the options in ACDSee, maybe it's time to use a different viewer. Will check out the reading material later on tonight, bookmarked for now.
Sorry and yes, PE Is Photo Elements.

I have ACDsee 6.0 ..

in the TOOLS menu\OPTIONS .. General Tab .. there is a GAMMA CORRECTION

mine was unchecked and had a default 1.00 in the box (grayed out)

you could experiment with that .. increase it in small amounts for brighter (1.10-1.25) .. and lower it for darker (0.85, etc)

I use irfanview .. there is also faststone

not the same as ACDsee, but FREE
