I believe I hear faint cheering from another discussion because I am posting here instead lol
This is in no way meant to upset anyone and I hope it does not.
There has been a bit of bombardment from various directions recently regarding our voting and commenting habits. Some members get upset about this, some defensive, some could not give a hoot, and others never even notice. Some do take notice and have a think about things.
May I suggest respectfully that anyone reading this take a look HERE Ignore the order and the upload numbers, they are not so important and just look at your own figures for commenting and voting. Don't compare your numbers with anyone elses - this is about you, not what other people do.If you are happy with what you see, on this particular day, taking into account the time you have had available, and are satisfied that you have done your best then don't worry - be happy. Any of us can only do our best and if we have, I think we have no need to feel bad.
Also take a look at the New Artists list HERE Can you remember your first upload? I can, I was petrified and wished I could unclick the upload button. I remember most of the commenters I had on that image and especially the first one - Dwight (jacked) He welcomed me with friendliness and respect, said a few encouraging words about my picture and wished me well. The image finally scored 34,more than I believe it deserved, but the welcome I received made me keep trying, and I stayed. It only takes a minute to say hello to someone, and those who are keen to adopt a new member may even find a suitable match there. There are new members who have confidence and are skilled already in what they do but I believe most are tentative and apprehensive.
~~Cheerfully throws a log on the bonfire he built in a different thread and steadfastly continues to refuse to look at any numbers, statistics, arguements for or against the c-index, etc, etc, etc...~~
~~Come and warm your hands, friends, be you new friends or old friends...this is caedes, all are welcome~~
Wow..it's been a long time since I haven't been on that Caedes.net activity list! That's what tax season does to ya!! I remember when I cracked the top 5 in activity awhile back...
Anyway...I don't need to see the list to know that I do not vote as much as I should. When I'm not busy, I usually do a decent amount of commenting...but I really need to get myself to vote more often.
I remember one of my first images too...it was of a little cottage at Leed's Castle in England. I remember getting a comment that the image would be better if "such and such item" was removed from the foreground (I don't remember what it was exactly). But, the person mentioned I could just crop it out. I distinctly remember thinking, what the heck does crop mean?
Hahah..just goes to show ya how much you can learn from everyone on here. Lynn's right...we should all take the time to comment (even better...critique)....and we should make a conscious effort to extend these comments to new members.
Now...that's all on my "after tax season" to-do list ;)
Me to...just as soon as this campfire dies down a little bit.
this was my first one, and I put a thread into request for comment. Not only did some freat, great people offer advice and support, but dear Jackie was kind enough to download it, edit it, send it back to me with a lenghty e-mail on what she did and why. Her version is here.
I guess we all owe a lot to those that met us at the door and welcomed us so warmly...and I agree...time to return the favor. That's next on my list.
And I still send lengthy emails... lmao.. at least he's now sharing his marshmallows.. =P
I think most people "try" to comment or vote but unfortunately we all have lives in the real world and that can be hectic..
I also know that a few have stopped leaving criticism due to the backlash from new members, plus there are a lot of members who donate to the site so they don't have to vote..
Maybe if it was introduced so that if you donate to the site you get 1 free upload but have to vote on 5 images to upload the 2nd that may increase the voting and viewing side of it..
Also maybe making (like I have said previously) compulsory after viewing, have sections of Composition, Contrast, DOF, Colour, Overall image pleasing to the eye.. then have "poor (needs improvement), fair, good, fantastic" with tick boxes beside them, that way people who don't want to comment can give the artist an idea on what they think of the image. Plus it will hopefully get people to look at the image more closely than "yep full viewed it.. saw it.. voted" all in 10 seconds..
"I think most people "try" to comment or vote but unfortunately we all have lives in the real world and that can be hectic.. "
Exactly ! :) - and so long as we ourselves are satisfied then we should be happy - not comparing what we do with others, I have been (only once, and only for a day) on the top of that list and I have also slipped off the bottom of it into oblivion on occassion, but no matter where I am on it it matters not - I know the reasons, and for the most part I, like most people, do what I can. Real life does have a habit of interfering lol
I like the idea of the tick boxes as an addition. I have seen it on another site and it works very well - it does not deter people from also commenting in their own words.
I am not sure whether to have a bacon sarnie or a marshmallow. Do the marshmallows get grilled on the fire or something?
Maybe the bs first, but I want HP sauce instead of relish thanks Bob.
Did it used to be called Daddy's Sauce or am I imagining that?
For this recipe, you'll need graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate, and a roaring fire. Okay, maybe "roaring" is overdoing it a little - let's settle for happily burning campfire.
(*hides 50-litre drum of lighter fluid ...*)
You'll also need a couple cooking skewers, or, if you're going old school, twigs. (Go old school.)
Prep the S'mores Ingredients
Start by breaking your graham crackers and chocolate into regulation s'mores sized chunks - set these aside until your key ingredient is ready.
Roast the Marshmallows
Next, carefully skewer your marshmallow, and set it over your fire to cook slowly. Some aficionados claim that a lightly browned, tender marshmallow is ideal; others prefer a more well done approach. Don't worry if your marshmallow happens to fall in the fire - while they don't grow on trees, one or two gone to the wayside probably won't break the bank.
Assemble the S'mores
Finally, take your perfectly roasted marshmallow and place it on top of the chocolate, and sandwich it between the two graham crackers. Allow the chocolate to melt just a bit, enjoy, and repeat.
Where have I been all my life ? I have never eaten a roasted mashmallow. Perhaps I am the only person on earth not to have done.
I am already collecting twigs
Come to think of it I dont know what a graham cracker is either - will have to go to googleville.
Back from my search - seems there is no equivalent in NZ - closest is a SuperWine biscuit.
Chocolate - now that I DO know.

Ok, I've come up with a list of duties ... wherein, we all will be participating in a rousing rendition of "Kum Ba Yah". And participation is mandatory.
Right ...
Rich, Jacqueline and Stephen are assigned the task of distributing the lyric sheets.
Cindy and Lyn will be on acoustic guitars. (What's that I hear? Yous don't know how to play the guitar? ... well ... try. ;o) )
Bob will sit in on the 'skins', or in other words ... some upside down pots and pans. (Bet you didn't know he played drums in an English rock group, did you? Well, he did. :o) )
And Ron gets the only tambourine that could be scrounged up. (Sorry, Ron ... no more maracas for you after the 'Caedes Summer Campfire Incident of '07'. :oP)
Me?
I will be the 'maestro' and/or conductor, if you will ... of this motley musical crew and choir (I asked *caedes first ... so there :oP) ... as well as ... distributing the much-needed and anticipated ... ear plugs.
Ready?
(*gets pelted by flaming marshmallows ...*)
... ...
... ...
Ha! My plan ... worked to perfection. I got yous all to roast my marshmallows for me!
Now if you'll excuse me ... going to go take a dunk in the lake ...
(*gets an assist ... or two ... towards that end ...*)
*wanders in and discovers a party goin' on* Hurray...we haven't had one of these in a long time--just what the doctor ordered!
*checks out menu--roasted marshmellows, hot spicy bacon sarnies, pancakes and syrup and Lyn-Eve soup?* Whaddya' know...I just happen to have some good old-fashioned Canadian maple syrup in my pocket and...my guitar on my back.
*peers into large bubbling pot* Lyn? is that you in there? The last I heard from you you were going off to cook but I had no idea you would put so much of yourself into it!
*begins strumming a few bars of Hang Down Your Head Tom Dooley...gets pelted by flaming marshmallows...heads over to see Les who suffered a similar fate...makes mental note to stop and chat with Bob after eyeing him in his speedo and feeling the need for one of his sarnies*
You misjudged me, Les. I can play the guitar, at least a few major/minor chords anyway. (:P. How 'bout I play the kazoo for you?
Goll dang it! I can't get that Kum bay yah outta my head now!
I appreciated that, but let's face it, I'm one of those whatcha call NOOBs too, just a little less nooby than three years ago, that's all. Got so much to learn yet and that's one of the reasons I come here to Caedes.net. There are some really very fine photographers here who have made that pursuit even more interesting and a lot easier for me.
I like the food here too! :o)
Gotta go find my kazoo now! Save me a marshmallow if you would.
Kum Bay Yah - good choice - we all did come by here -
I need to know it I am in the soup literally or if as in "in deep trouble'
Can I get out now?
I need to have a good laugh at Pat's post and I am fair near drowning in here. It's a cruel way to make one keep ones mouth shut :)
Sorry, guitar playing is not among my talents - talents, what talents? You may well ask - some of us are late developers (very late) but I intend to hone my marshmallow roasting skills.
Bob's already delegated to the bacon sarnie task - that is one thing I do with a modicum of skill. The old way with real fried bread is the best but too many people watching their cholesterol these days.
splutter splutter - please let me out - you will need a big spoon.
I promise to be quiet(ish)
You, of anyone, don't belong in that soup. I think you should come out now, unless of course, you don't want to see what Pat saw. Well, Pat has a guitar, so we're all ready to begin. Do you need a hand getting out of there? I don't have a big spoon on me though. Sorry.
Can I play too?..lol..I play guitar! I also like the tick box suggestion! That'd make things somewhat easier around here. I brought some hot dogs to cook on a stick!
Speedo Bob's Jam session Here .. Do I qualify a place at the fireside!....
fetching a couple of Kegs of strong light beer for those that need a bit of help "getting in the Mood"!!!....
*arrives back at party with assorted ‘liquid refreshments’ to add to Bob’s supplies*
Name your poison, friends, there’s something here to suit all tastes.
*waves at Lyn…nice lady…though a bit over the top with her cooking methods*
*spots fellow guitarist* Hi Joannie, we’d love to have you play along…just keep your eyes peeled and be ready to duck…these folks have an odd way of showing their appreciation for good music.
*gladly accepts a light beer from Bob…abit early in the day but hot sarnies and flaming marshmallows can make a body thirsty*
*settles down for friendly fireside chat with fellow caedesian friends*
Lyn, the only reason you were 'in the soup' in the first place is you brought it up on a different thread over that-a-way >>>>>>>>>>> somewhere! Now dry off and have a marshmallow!
~~Was gonna wear a speedo like Bob, but was told I closely resembled an egg wearing a rubber band and reconsidered. You can all thank me later!~~
Thought I would stop by and join the party...I left the Shiny Thing at the campfire....so no worries about losing my head and chasing shiny things. Les was more interested in my Shiny Thing anyway.
*Grabs a drink and a marshmallow...sits down and.....HEY LOOK>>>SQUIREL!!!!!
*Darn...forgot to take my meds again*
Runs off for a bit to chase squirels.*
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
THAT IS TOO FUNNY!!!!! Rob.....Hey wait...that's me you laughing at...that's not funny.
*Sticks marshmallow if fire and throws it at Rob.*
DUCK!!!!....Darn it...now I'm chasing Ducks.
Hey, Rich, hope you found that rum ok...been ridin' the rails and fighting the downtown crowds all day...wouldn't mind a little taste of something myself to settle my nerves.
*downs two straight shots of vodka in short order*
No new subway shots today but hey lemme' take your picture for the community gallery...now hold still will 'ya...quit weaving back and forth...click...a perfect shot...of Rick...and his identical twin.
Pardon me, but in reviewing both of your shots that you are holding in front of me (in your four hands) it would appear that I am actually a siamese twin. All these years and I never knew...who'd have thunk ?
Bob...Bob...don't cry...here I...er, we... got you a brand new set ! Live it up!
Pls accept my...er our...hhhmmm, this siamese stuff is confusing...aplogies
~~While everyone tries to sort out my siamese apology my twin carefully and discreetly makes a stack fo cookies behind me...er, us...that is to say...oh, never mind!~~
Actually, I'm extremely unhappy, I can't begin to tell you. But if I get into it I'll probably start a war, so I won't. I resent your bringing that list to everyone's attention in an effort to suggest that people may not be doing enough to support the site.... it's nobody's business who does what or how often. And I'd feel the same way if my name was on that list... as it was 3 years ago when I WAS busy commenting & voting.
I don't want to get into anything either, Lauren. I think Eve only meant to show, (my interpretation only), that those who complain the most about the index and tell us we should comment more, are those who don't themselves. You are right about it not being anyone's concern about how many comments you make or how many votes you cast. I think that is what she was saying as well. Lots of helpful comments and interactions go on behind the scenes and can't be measured in number or worth. The site is meant to be helpful, sharing and fun. Hopefully, we can all work to keep it just that way.
I could be wrong, and maybe the point could have been made without the list, but I think Lyns point was almost the same as yours, Lauren...if YOU are content with your level of involvement, then be happy and don't let all this c-index and other stuff get to you.
~~Throws another log on the fire and looks for something besides marchmallows to roast~~
Uh, Bob...don't exactly have a chainsaw but when the wind picks up THIS could work...just toss her in.
Sorry guys, please don't blame Rich for all this commotion with Siamese twins and shiny things and stuff...I feel partly responsible...my photography skills can be downright supernatural at times.
Lauren, I don't think Lyn meant to make anyone feel bad...everyone knows you can't always devote as much time to caedes as one might like to or used to...but I DO sympathize with the frustration of those who create fractals...I happen to love them but when it comes to understanding how they are created my knowledge is slim and none...but I DO have eyes in my head and can see color, design, depth, texture...so those who purposely vote low because they don't understand or even like fractals should stop and think how they go about choosing clothes, household items like a carpet, a sofa etc...chances are there isn't a photo slapped on the front...they consist of color, design, texture etc. and they make their selections according to their likes and dislikes...so why should voting on fractals be any different?...I don't want to encourage any argument on this, at least not on this thread, but just wanted to make that point while I had it in mind...
Sorry for the shameful self promotion...sometimes you just gotta' call attention to yourself...now take Rich for example...there's two of him running around here with something shiny in all four hands!
*makes a hasty exit after putting foot in mouth above*
Pat, I think you feel that I took Lyn's posting personally, probably by my initial sentence of "Actually, I'm extremely unhappy,...." etc. I said "unhappy" because of the title of the thread, no other reason really. I didn't so much get upset by taking things personally, I got upset because I took the posting of that list, despite my name not being there... as a huge invasion of privacy. I know it;s crazy since the list is posted for anyone to see anyway, but it was the way it was used. As I said earlier, it's nobody's business who contributes, or how much. Posting the link & then suggesting everyone take a look at their numbers & if they were okay with them, then that wasfine....somehow, the implication just struck a very wrong chord with me. That's all.
However, I WOULD like to thank you for your support on the subject of voting on fractals. I never thought of them in the same light you brought up, textiles, textures, furniture design, but you're exactly right about that. All anybody has to do is look at them in that light. Thanks for that, I appreciate it.
CHOCOLATES!!!!!!!!!! DID SOMEONE SAY CHOCOLATE!! lol
Pat you said EXACTLY what i have been saying for a very very long time to those who "don't understand fractals" its good to see someone thinks the same as me... (scary)
@Lauren, I feel the need to repost this part of what I said
"Ignore the order and the upload numbers, they are not so important and just look at your own figures for commenting and voting. Don't compare your numbers with anyone elses - this is about you, not what other people do.If you are happy with what you see, on this particular day, taking into account the time you have had available, and are satisfied that you have done your best then don't worry - be happy. Any of us can only do our best and if we have, I think we have no need to feel bad."
I further explained in my next post.
It was in no way meant to offend anyone - I was simply trying to point out that at times it seems that our own individual way of participating in this site (ie voting and commenting) receives more criticism than do our uploads. And sometimes I feel bad about that - although do not see why I should.
Actually I was NOT saying I thought people were not doing enough to support the site - I was in fact saying the opposite - that we all contribute in different ways, and the one thing that makes ME unhappy is having my feeble attempts to offer a critique or vote fairly and without bias is often under fire.
I am happy with what I see on that list most of the time whether I be on it or off it, and I have no qualms about anyone else looking at it. I am for the most part satisfied that I have done my best, taking into account circumstances, time avaiable, etc.
you said "I resent your bringing that list to everyone's attention in an effort to suggest that people may not be doing enough to support the site.... it's nobody's business who does what or how often."
That was not my intention, perhaps I am bad with words and I apologise for any misunderstanding. You took it as the exact opposite of what I THOUGHT I had said and intended to say.
I should have stayed in the soup.
Perhaps I should just shut up and eat chocolate, mind my own business and not look at lists.
I am sorry to leave this thread - and this party.
Haere ra everyone
For the record - to answer my own question 'Are You Happy?"
No I am not - very upset would be a better description. but the sun is shining, the weeds are growing, and my camera is calling - plenty to do.
I think you are quite excellent at composing your thoughts and presenting them, Eve. Please don't stop.
Lauren, I think something hit a nerve and I'm sorry that you feel bad and took Eve's words personally, but truly she didn't at all mean what you understood her to mean in her opening to this thread.
I think the situation here has become a little tenous because no one seems to know how long we will be left wondering about the return of the index or not. For some it is rather important and for others, not so much. But, one way or the other, there is some tension afoot due to the not knowing.
I think I am correct in that the number of posts seems to have dropped over the last week or so and this may be consequent to the above and there is a sense of aimlessness when one does access the site.
Please correct this notion, if I am in error and my observations don't hold with the truth, but that is how it seems to me personally and also in conjunction with the thoughts I have received from others here.
Yes, Lauren, it seems that fractalists get short shrift here and possibly fractals should be put into another voting category (if the index and vb remain, that is), but if someone says they don't understand fractals, I would say, just go to the abstract gallery and peruse the images there and surely your eyes will light on some beautiful and colorful image that strikes a chord with you for it's color and form and light or excites in some way. We are fortunate to have some very talented fractalists posting here. It's not easy coaxing those beautiful forms out of apop, etc. sometimes. I've tried and I know.
Some forms of photography don't do so well here either. You don't have to 'understand' an art form to appreciate the outcome.
So, hopefully, the situation will find its cure relatively soon and some of our suggestions will see the light of day, but in the meantime, we can try to pull together instead of being at odds because our reasons for coming to Caedes in the first place, I expect, aren't all that different.
Oh boy...where's all the comedians around here when you need them...I posted a photo today called Caedes Campfire hoping to call attention to this thread, hoping we could all just have some fun and forget all that other 'stuff' for awhile...I have since renamed it and withdrawn the invite as it looks like another 'fire' needs putting out and the party may be over...it was fun while it lasted...Lyn, Lauren, you're both great gals and I hate to see either of you upset...just blame it on me for bringing it up...guess I shoulda' just stuck with the 'self promotion' thing...*re-inserts foot in mouth til help arrives*
~~Whistles cheerfully enough though he's been shunned by Awd Bob, re-assembles the fire, cleans up all the empties and takes them to a recycling center where he gets enough cash to fund another week or so of the party~~
Come one, come all, plenty of room here at the caedes campfire, new friends, old friends...and if there is a bit of disagreement from time to time, no harm no foul, plenty of room here for divergent opinions...there is room for all here at caedes. Pull up a log, roast a marshmallow, Awd Bob will lead us on percussion.
~~Come on back Lyn, the soups not the same without your wooden spoons~~
~~Lauren...chocolates here for ya~~
We've all said our peace now lets have Awd Bob lead us in some good, good music !
For 50+ posts all seem to be having a good time at a good old fashioned bonfire...then one post..just one...and taking no sides here...gets everyone up in arms again.
Can we not have discussion, disagreement, expressions of emotion without still remaining a community? Without taking comments as personal attacks?
Carry on the current 'unhappiness thread' if you must...at the risk of third degree burns I believe the bonfire shall shift to... here. Hoping all will feel free to join me....
No scripting involved Cindy...just that a good time was being had by all and suddendly the posts revolve around how unhappy people are and how they are leavinf the thread...time to start again elsewhere and try and mantain a positive more mellow thread and focus....which is what I should have done in the first place instead of hijacking Lyn's attempt at a serious conversation.
Please feel free to carry on with the original premise, arguements and all...
;-)
I guess this would be my answer to you then, Rich......
"I don't want to spoil the party so I'll go,
I would hate my disappointment to show,
There's nothing for me here so I will disappear,
If she turns up while I'm gone please let me know.
I've had a drink or two and I don't care,
There's no fun in what I do if she's not there,
I wonder what went wrong I've waited far too long,
I think I'll take a walk and look for her.
Though tonight she's made me sad,
I still love her,
If I find her I'll be glad,
I still love her.

I should have started my own thread instead of hijacking Lyn's right out of the box. No one can be faulted for responding to what started out by Lyn as a serious inquiry...and no one can be faulted for responding back.
There is no malice intended in starting a new thread...just doing what I should have done in the first place. There has been an awful lot of fairly intense discussion (which does not mean 'bad'), I just would like a more informal spot where we can get back to makes this site so special...the People.
I hope to see both you and Lyn there...all are welcome and there is room for all...
do I have this straight? one can join the picnic and the marshmallow roasting and the bacon sarnies only if one is HAPPY... as in, DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY... (???)
NO ONE is HAPPY all the time... hell, some of us deal with a ton of negatives and still manage to say something positive about still breathing in and out at the end of the day. Grateful to be here? ABSOLUTELY! Grateful to have physical and emotional pain every waking hour? NO, NOT, NEGATIVE. Hey, I managed to get out today and take some pictures... Major victory.
Life is not fair. Life hurts a lot of the time. And sometimes life is a s**t sandwich. But then, when you really look for it, life can also be absolutely golden.
Without the negative there can hardly be a positive.
*steps off the soapbox*
I'll have a marshmallow now, if I may. it's been years since I've had a s'more. ;-))
I just "edited" my comment, because it wasn't important anymore. Isn't it interesting how we are all suddenly "chatting" , it's almost like being in a 'chat room' It's actually a bit refreshing, because we are communicating. I agree with Mary (Solita)..we all do have some hard times, I for one have an abundance. I try not let that rub off in here. It would feel wonderful to get some motivation and some TLC, and so if that's beginning here, that's one kewl thing. I do want to say I like being part of these little discussions. I know I haven't always said much and at times I was a bit ignorant about what I was trying to learn, but in the long run of it all, it's all been a learning process. I wouldn't leave here for anything. It's an interesting group of people that's for sure. Bravo on that one...Verena
Verena the VB is working fine.. I assume your talking about the Activity page.. that number is where you stand with how much active you are on this site, it's a combination of how many comments you leave, how often you vote in the VB and how many images you upload..
Now I was not going to say anything on this thread because I have learnt from previous experience whatever I say I get jumped on... but these days I really don't care what anyone thinks, i'm giving my personal feelings on this if you don't like it tuff.. everyone on this site has every right to give their opinion whether you agree or not.. and it drives me nuts that people take others opinions as a personal attack.. sorry to bring you all down to earth but its not about YOU.. its about a stupid little number that people think rules the world..
As for the activity rating.. I personally don't even look at it because to me this site is not a contest to see how many times you comment, how often you vote and how many uploads you make.. I'm here to share my art, talk to friends and RELAX.. not everyone can sit for hours and hours uploading 2 pics a day (a lot btw isn't good quality it seems like "ohhh I HAVE TO post 2 pics a day this will do")commenting on all new images, all their friends and all the newebies.. There are members here who do a lot for Caedes behind the scenes that take up a lot of time that most of you don't know about(eg. going through 100's of pages from sites that have been found to have rips so that members know and can take action) PLUS a lot of people work long hours, have families and A LIFE..
I'm not paying out on anyone here so PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS PERSONALLY.. i'm talking in general to everyone.. but I know that will fall on deaf ears.. lol..
*runs off to Rich's camp.. quick gimme a drink and marshmellow before i get lynched..
When I go to the VB, it's because I'd like to get a chance to view some work I normally wouldn't see. I haven't been as active in the past year and there are so many new members. The c-index ... ends up hurting more without giving any help.
You're totally on it Jackie! Numbers, who cares. I was curious what that one meant, but other than that, well, tuff!! I love reading good comments, and to give my thoughts, hopefully to help someone feel good about their postings. We all learn, and I am not one to sit at this computer all day long and make it my lifes ambition. But I am intersted in caedes in general, I like to know whats going on, but to sit and read endlessly about the same thing with a new twist, well, nope, it's not for me. I'd love to hear what people are enjoying in their life, the things that makes them happy and the things that helps them ponder on something new maybe. Or a challenge. I personally need a bit of motivation. I've had a bunch of "stuff" come at me in the past couple years, and it's been tough, so I would love to be able to just enjoy a few things. Lately, it's all been too much, so when I have a short bit of time that I feel pretty ok, I come in here, to get a "lift"...I love looking at all the variety of photos, from all over the world. Its just fascinating to me. So, now, marshmallows? Nope, not for me, but a nice drippy "smores" would be grand! Its a good thing its pretend food, 'cause in reality I can't even eat that stuff. lol Even tho I do cheat now and then. I think
mr.caedes will do all he can, as he always does, to make the site better, to make improvements, but even he has a life beyond computers! I love the contests we've had, maybe it won't be long after this one is done, that a new one will crop up. I hope so. And the poetry thread, I wish more people would go there, it's actually very interesting too.
Ok, 'nuff said...........V
"because to me this site is not a contest to see how many times you comment, how often you vote and how many uploads you make."
What J_272004 said above is exactly what I was trying to get accross in starting this thread.
BTW my ears are not deaf and although I used to regularly upload two images a day it was not because I felt I 'had to'
I was MY way of relaxing - but as has been pointed out several times quantity does not equate with quality. I continue to process just as many images as always - I just don't post as many. No one, least of all myself has noticed any improvement in the quality of what I do post.
No I am not taking things personally, not much anyway :) Like many others I also have a life, a family, two jobs, worries, good days. bad days, etc.
Am I happy ? - happy with what I do here and the enjoyment I get from participating and learning.- we all do what we can according to our abilities. Not everyone agrees with the way we operate as individuals and repeating what I said right at the start "and are satisfied that you have done your best then don't worry - be happy. Any of us can only do our best and if we have, I think we have no need to feel bad."
Off in search of more marshmallows now . . .Plenty to be had HERE
:) :)
I asked what your thoughts were - boy, that worked :) LOL
This is in no way meant to upset anyone and I hope it does not.
There has been a bit of bombardment from various directions recently regarding our voting and commenting habits. Some members get upset about this, some defensive, some could not give a hoot, and others never even notice. Some do take notice and have a think about things.
May I suggest respectfully that anyone reading this take a look HERE
Ignore the order and the upload numbers, they are not so important and just look at your own figures for commenting and voting.

Can you remember your first upload? I can, I was petrified and wished I could unclick the upload button. I remember most of the commenters I had on that image and especially the first one - Dwight (jacked) He welcomed me with friendliness and respect, said a few encouraging words about my picture and wished me well. The image finally scored 34,more than I believe it deserved, but the welcome I received made me keep trying, and I stayed. It only takes a minute to say hello to someone, and those who are keen to adopt a new member may even find a suitable match there. There are new members who have confidence and are skilled already in what they do but I believe most are tentative and apprehensive.
Any thoughts on any of this??
