Steve is unable to choose today due to a family sadness. He will choose as soon as he can.
In the meantime I have added THREE new images.
Please let me know if I have missed any. I have not been well and am a bit distracted !

Steve's Silver Birch -- Again and Again is the one for me.

It was hard to choose! I tried all the wallpapers on my iPad and shortlisted those that worked best, then looked at them on a desktop display. In my view this one makes a cool wallpaper on both devices. There is nice contrast and the sharp twigs work as a focal point.

I feel there are no especial rules about what looks good on an iPad -- it's nice to come out of an app and be hit between the eyes by something that's soft and attractive, bold and jazzy, or creative and cool. I just wish they would stop frosting the dock at the bottom of the iPad home page....

I'll PM Steve. :-)

Thanks Lyn, very much appreciated!

I've chosen Sandi's A Michigan Sunset_Lake Hudson B&W image.
My motivation: both the colored and B&W versions are wonderful. I don't like to compare the B&W version with the colored version however, because each version has its own charm and exudes a different mood. Each version have their special features: the colored version has some more warmth while the reflections of the B&W version are more intense. Because it's a B&W challenge, I'm choosing for the latter one.

I'll send Lyn a PM and will send a copy of it to Sandi to inform her as well.

Thanks Richie, very much appreciated!

I've chosen Sandi's A Local Nature Area_B&W image.
My motivation: I've already said in my comment that the Photomatix Pro editing has added a dreamy look to the the result of the 3 compiled initial images. The B&W result has a painterly and moody character. It has the appearance of unspoiled nature. I don't know whether this is true or not. This appearance has made it to my choice however!

I'll send Lyn a PM and will send a copy of it to Sandi and Richie to inform them as well.

Kia Ora B&W Challenge friends.
Today there are SIX new images added to the list (so far) and as always thank you to the artists for their fine efforts. I also want to thank those of you who are actively encouraging participation. It has been your input from the beginning that has kept the BWC alive for so long.

Which brings me to the fact that on 25th October we shall have been alive for 5 years !
On our first day in 2012 we had 33 submissions to choose from.

There have been many participants come and go during that time. Some are sadly missed but we remain strong with the dedicated members who have been here since day one and those who have joined in along the way. Caedes membership overall has dropped considerably since 2012 so it is to be expected there should be a smaller group interested in B&W works now. What we lack in numbers is compensated for by dedication.

I believe the BWC has kindled extra interest in B&W which was its intention from the start so in that respect I think we can all claim success.

I wish I could throw a 5th anniversary party for you all but instead suggest we celebrate with a bumper number of submissions on Wednesday 25th October !!

LE :)

Thank you Bruce. I did not get here yesterday.
I have moved Cornelius's lovely Rural Scene to the top list and as I am still on 'choose' duty for him during his absence I have selected Tim's film photo The Old School - it has a rather lonely feel to it, and gives a feeling of looking back in time.
I shall let Tim know he is next up.

Thanks Sandi very much appreciated!

I've chosen 'Nik's A Black and White Frenzy image.
My motivation: it's simply a powerful one. The exuded mood was even enhanced by the choice of monotones. Therefore it's my choice!

I'll send Lyn a PM and will send a copy of it to Sandi and 'Nik' to inform them as well.

I've chosen Sandi's Sharon Mills B&W image.
My motivation: I'm somewhat amazed that this entry wasn't chosen during my recent absence, because it's an excellent B&W image with a great depth and wonderful monotone shades. Proves to me as well that the other entries have a similar quality. But now I've the opportunity to select this one. Therefore it's my choice!

I'll send Lyn a PM and will send a copy of it to Sandi and Tick to inform them as well.

Thanks Tim, very much appreciated!

I've chosen Sandi's Damaged image.
My motivation: In addition to my already given comment on this one, it's to me an inventive way to tell by the medium of photography a scary story. B&W has even enhanced the intriguing character of this 'warning'. Hope that by selecting this capture more people are aware of this danger. All these reasons make that it's my choice!

Thanks Sandi, very much appreciated!

I see however that Sandi and I are the only two remaining artists who have B & W submissions on the list of selectable items in the Wednesday B & W challenge now. Although Sandi provided us with excellent B & W photos, the choice has been limited (again) now.

I would like to invite everyone (who cares about the Wednesday B & W challenge) to add a contribution. If you don't know how to do this, please check out this link.

My choice is not difficult this time. It's Sandi's Berry Drop B&W image. I've already indicated in my comment of this image why I am gripped by this entry: simple, but very effective in expressing beauty. The choice for B & W makes that it goes even a step further.

I'll send Lyn a PM and will send a copy of it to Sandi to inform her as well.

Kia Ora BWC friends,
After much thought it is with regret I have decided the time has come to discontinue the Wednesday B&W Challenge.
With decreasing numbers overall on the site it was inevitable that participation would diminish and now that has happened, leaving only a few very dedicated members keeping the Challenge alive.

I would like to thank everyone who has taken part over the last 5 years, and especially those loyal members still enjoying their involvement. I am sure you will all agree the time has come, and I trust the BWC has served its purpose - which was to to increase appreciation of the B&W genre. I believe all who have taken part have enjoyed creating B&W images as well as enjoying those created by others.

I shall be sending the 'Selected' list for inclusion in the Main B&W Challenge Gallery. Those still on the 'Available' list I hope to have promoted as well, as they would have been in time.

I hope that all future Wednesdays will continue to be B&W Wednesdays and that we will still see plenty of images being created. Over the years there have been many amazing B&W's and it is so enjoyable to browse the 103 pages of a fine B&W GALLERY.

Thank you all, it has been such a pleasure to look after the BWC :)

Kira Ora as well, Lyn.

Reading your above comment, I would say that discontinuing the Wednesday B&W challenge is a pity, but very understandable, because of the by you mentioned reasons!

You have said in an earlier comment: "I believe the BWC has kindled extra interest in B&W which was its intention from the start so in that respect I think we can all claim success."

I agree with you for more than 100%!

My sincere thanks for the excellent work/effort that you've done for more than 5 years for the B&W-challenge! You really did a great job, my friend!
