I waited and waited for the train to appear, but it never did. I was either way too early or late. I am not sure which one.

Photo was taken at the depot in Ottumwa, Iowa with my original digital camera. It was a Kodak DX4530 5mp little devil that fit easily into a pocket. This was in my early days on Caedes before I learned not to center the shot or the need to take out wires, poles and such. It was a Canon Rebel, Panasonic DMC FZ35, Nikon D7000 and Canon PowerShot AS3100 ago. The camera was slim and so was I. To say I have gained a few megapixels would be a gross understatement. I was in the mood for a little color and found this languishing in the golf bag. Enjoy.

Well, I can honsetly say...no need for a 42 x superzoom with power pixels!...I can also say I have lost a few pixels over the past year too...but this is a corker..The lead line pulls the eye to the far point...so sharp, that point would pierce yer eye too!

Howd the hell you manage to keep everybody off that platform while you snapped it?...

If you focus on the foreground, your eyes move through the shot about as fast as a runaway train! That little camera does a great job, Tick. Super shot!

Bit of a daredevil standing in the middle of the track! Got perspective down back then. Some of those early cameras had great lenses. I loved my 4mp Kodak too.

Last year around this time I missed the bus. Painful it was then and painful it still remains. I can imagine the same feeling missing the train. Fine shot Tick. Now get off the tracks please!

The perspective that this offers is excellent, I fell like I could just step into the image and walk those tracks.

It is a great shot taken with such a camera Tick. The DOF is very good here and also I like how the rails lead the eye to the horizon.

In this case, Ron, centering the photo allows the diminishing perspective to rule the day, pulling our eyes into the distance. There are rules to photography (that a number of folks here at Caedes like to wave like a flag when they interpret your images for you) but I've always thought of them only as guidelines. Often going against the "rules" produces a much more interesting photo (remember the end credits for "Rain Man?"). The only thing I would have suggested for this one was to move the camera about a foot to the left. Then the track would have been exactly in the center. I'd also like to see this view taken again late in the day, just after the sun has dropped below the horizon so the shadows are equal on both sides. An approaching storm, coloring the sky gold or green that then fills the shadows under those rain covers would really be interesting. Quite often pre-dawn and post-sunset light is the best light to shoot by.

Tick - I really like the diminishing perspective of this image that originates at the corners and has a symmetry to it. A good one from the bin, for sure. Now - some words of advice: Waiting for the train by standing between the rails can be hazardous to your health! ;-) Thad

Thanks for pointing out all your mistakes. Saves room for the praise I guess. A very good perspective in the photo. Nice lighting and colours in the scene. Maybe if you stick around you can catch the Last Train to Clarksville leaving track number 2.

Rules are made to be broken Tick and I think that the tracks being centered is just the way it was supposed to happen. A great capture my friend.
