We've all been there one time or another. Every year winter seems to last a little longer and the summers go by a little faster. This winter has been especially long. This was taken with a pocket camera I purchased a while back. It is a Nikon Coolpix S9500. I thought I would take it out for a test spin and see if I could gain some traction for taking photos once more.

According to my grandson this is known as Poachers Road. He said it is also a favorite spot for the youngsters to go muddin'. I asked him if he had done either on the road. He admitted to one. I didn't push the issue. What you don't know won't hurt you.

That's a pretty graphic image of what I have all winter this year. It's just missing the ice that hasn't had a chance to melt off after a few days. I've had ice spikes on my boots since mid November, and Blue has to stay in the sanded trail I made for him. Think it's time I moved to south west New Mexico.
Your road is even more treacherous with drop-off's on both sides.
Most of ours just drop off on one side.
Anyway, your new camera did a nice job on this, and it's obvious you made it home. Two wins and zero losses, Tick. Well done.

Grandkids!!! Gotta love 'em....lol
This would be a great sledding hill if the road wasn't traveled! And yes, its a good one for muddin, but I hope your grandson didn't do that! Cool find and shot Ticker!!!

You are so right Tick...this winter has been loooong.

I am so looking forward to the pitchers and catchers reporting..I think it is approx. 22 days?

When that starts, I know it won't be toooo long before we are warm again. :)

Take care and nice capture with the pocket camera.

**Edit...Tick we can call this the long Road of Winter :)

By the looks of this image your Coolpix is performing beautifully... although it looks more like March mud season here, I agree this winter is already too long... we're in the middle of a blizzard right now.

Coolpix is working just fine for you, TicK. It's been a rather mild winter, yet rainy here in Italy. The entire weather systems is screwed up. Hang in there.

LOL, love your narrative. The camera and you did well with this - nice work.
You are having a long winter and we don't know how long our summer will be because it has not started yet ! It seems to have passed us by somehow, and there are a lot of children on their 6 week school holidays driving their parents demented as they succumb to cabin fever.

---What you don't know don't hurt you---

OFT (Owd Fella Tick) I enjoy both your image and narrative. Reading the latter one, think that all grandsons behave themselves in a rather similar way. When my 3 grandsons are staying at my home, it wouldn't be the first time that they come back completely soaked and muddy. From educating point of view I have to say something (in a gentle way), knowing that I've done the same in my childhood, lol.
The image of Poachers Road is a good accompanying one. It visualizes your story and stimulates the imagination to interpret it in a proper way!

Well done Ron!

Regards, Cornelius.

Thought we were in for an image of deer doing the naughty but no, it's a wonderful winter image. The composition is wonderful and your narrative is well up to scratch.

I've been enjoying my Coolpix L820 Tick - bought as my grab n' go and have been very surprised - this steep slope speaks volumes as to this winter I hope it's downhill from here but somehow doubt it - a very good capture that speaks to me!

Looks like a great place to go sledding! I'm sure you will get enough snow sometime this winter to accommodate all kinds of sleds. Good shot, Tick. I can't seem to get much motivation to go out taking pictures, and I don't even think a new camera will do the trick.

I can certainly relate to this one, both being in a rut and the long winter feeling...I also know a little about unintentional muddin' but that's another story and one I don't wish to relive any time soon...great perspective and detail.

I imagine come springtime those ruts can get quite a bit deeper if it's anything like it is around here.

I see no deer in the scene, so you might want to check his rifle and see if it's been cleaned recently. As for the other, check the laundry basket.

A good perspective and composition of the scene, Tick.
