Memorial Day is an American Holiday that honors all the men and women in the Armed Forces who have died while serving their country. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and is observed on the last Monday in May.

Cemeteries all across our nation have ceremonies, with flags flying, in honor of the fallen. We also take the time to remember all our family and friends and place flowers on their graves. This photo was taken at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Cincinnati, Iowa. It only shows a small portion of all the flags that are flying there today.

This is very thought out...We also have one for our own armed forces that was in the terrible conflict...I do like that line of flags which goes off way into the distance...

---Memorial Day is an American Holiday that honors all the men and women in the Armed Forces who have died while serving their country---

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), not only their country! My country was liberated with the aid of these American heroes as well!

Most of the people in my country are still grateful what they have done!
Therefore we shall never forget that they have given the highest price for our freedom!

Your image is a great and still touching tribute and a very apt contribution for the USA memorial day!

It seems that about every third or fourth year I acquire another headstone to adorn with decoration at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery (we only have the one). At first it was my dad, then my adopted parents (his information on the front, hers on the back), then the grandmother of a niece, and the last the parents of a brother-in-law who lives in Montana. I do not mind, being a vet myself and these people are family. I generally try to find out or, in other cases, remember what their favorite flower or color is and find those to place at the grave, along with a small American flag and one from their particular branch of service (one Marine, two Army, and one Air Force so far). After decorating I then shoot a cell phone photo and send copies to those who cannot be here in person. This is a good way to respect and remember, treating the day for what it is, and not the way Trump used the Normandy headstones as a backdrop to more of his juvenile name calling. I also have added these headstones to a program that lays red-ribboned pine wreaths at each over the Christmas holidays. With the marble stones rising from the snow, it makes for dramatic photos.
