I thought this photo was self explanatory as to the water level in Hannibal, Missouri on June 3, 2019. Normal flood stage in Hannibal is 16.0 feet. The level had dropped to 28.79 by June 4 and is expected to drop to 28.0 June 5. You can read about it here.

Also pictured is the Tow Boat Sir Randall. It was the only vessel I saw on the Mississippi this day. Information on the Sir Randall can be viewed here. More information on the flooding can be seen here. You can also check out my post from yesterday here. Sorry for all the links, I thought it might be of interest.

I like your composition to this....

It looks as if that tow boat is also low in the water...

Major flooding is becoming such a re-ocurring problem in recent years...it must be awfully upsetting for everyone affected...glad to hear the water is going down...another telling shot.

That's a familiar scene for the Mississippi Tick - I saw film today of the flooding on the Illinois river and the Ohio - we had rain 26 out of the last 36 days here in Chicago.

That says it all Tick. 14 above usual high water level is real real trouble. Hope it is going down sooner.

Incredible. Are we perhaps seeing an effect of global warming here, Ron, or has this been a regular occurrance on the Mississippi, year after year?

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), one has to say 'sorry' for done mistakes, but not for the excellent job you've done. Great work ('photo journalism' accompanied with very well documented information).
Hope that the water won't rise anymore. A to me touching tragedy!

Hopefully the Randall has a flat bottom so as to not get caught on any snags--that is, of course, if your Mississippi is anything like my Missouri, Ron (the Randall link was dead). This level rise is equivalent to what we got up in the Dakotas back in 2011, what was called a 500-year flood. Aren't you tired of how fast 500 years seems to be going by? Nice to see this one as a pioneer in the new Photojournalism gallery. bd (two thumbs up)
