I'll let you figure out what it possible rhymes with. I'll be out riding my bicycle in the meantime.

So I came across this scene while out on an unusual early morning walk about town. Unusual in the sense that at that time of day I would be nowhere near civilization and already be working; unless it was a weekend morning then I'd most likely be sleeping in, or at least trying to if it wasn't for the neighbour revving the mower engine. The streets, much like my head, were empty. Come to think of it there were no pedestrians, not even that health nut jogger with the bad knees joints or the dog walker lady. Okay, I seem to have gotten off track. I try it again, and maybe again until I get it right.

Early morning walk...yada, yada, yada...I came across this scene of senseless vandalism. Someone had punctured the tire of this otherwise perfectly serviceable bicycle that was making early morning deliveries of fresh flowers. Though why it was chained to a bike rail in an alleyway behind an abandoned building is another story altogether.

Enjoy and your comments most welcomed.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

I love this shot! That bright bicycle and then the colours that are reflected again in the puddle are just wonderful. There is something that really speaks to me in this photo. The crumbling dark tarmac and the vandalism are such good reportage photography which is a weakness of mine! I dont know i just really love it! Thanks for sharing :D

Wow, absolutely awesome image! Shame about what someone did to the bike but you couldn't have asked for a better photo opportunity. I really love how the bright orange stands out against the dark setting and then pops out again in the reflection in the puddle. What a winner you have here!

Well the thugs did a good spray job on that bike. This is a very interesting shot it tells a story as well. The colours and reflection of the bike in the puddly are stunning, and a very nice angle you took the shot from too.

Nice find while on your hike, Wendell. Hard to believe someone would do that. They even painted the reflection.

Great narrative, Wendell and an amusing observation by TicK. Your skills at composition are showcased in this presentation. Honestly, this is really an excellent posting. The contrast between the wet city scene and the florescent bike creates a stark disparity. Excellent use of lighting (or lack thereof) and the reflection is a wonderful touch.

caveats?

I thought that was fish eggs.

This really leaped out at me as a thumbnail and in full screen really has impact. I know those vandals shouldnt have done this, but you have to hand it to them, it sure makes a great DT! ha ha Fav'd and thank you for sharing.

I agree; the thumbnail grabbed my eye because of the bright orange in the photo, against all that dark background. It is a very unique capture, but I'm wondering if it really was vandalism. Looking closely I can see there is paint on the ground under the front tire but none under the fully painted back tire. Looking ahead of the bike, near that light rubble on the ground, there is orange spray without any any immediately discernible reason for it to be there. There is also paint on the rack's top rail, forward of the bike a little, and part of the chain lock has paint on it as well. The distance from the rubble paint to the bike and the other oddities poses a question (I like photos that make me think!) -- perhaps the bike isn't in as great of shape as it appears? Perhaps the owner enjoys sculpture and decided to use his not-so-workable bike as an artistic medium (I once painted an old pair of boots in a similar fashion)? I think it's possible that the owner parked the bike here, away from the bike rack, painted part of it, then got the idea of chaining it up, doing so and painting the rest. The other element in the photo that suggests staging rather than vandalism is the black flowers in the basket. The obviously fresh paint on the ground would preclude flowers dying and turning black this quickly. I think it's art. Of course, I also think that of the photo you've taken, Wendel. Off-center placement and the watery reflection are testament to that. Nice work and thanks for the brain tease. And by the way, on my home planet, "Orange" rhymes with "Egnaro." What can I say... we're a backwards civilization.
