beauty wendell, isn't mother nature generous to provide us with such rugged beauty for us to enjoy, really love this kind of photography, it's pure art.......
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
Very nice close up and good focus and detail in this photo. There is some lovely light and shade too in this shot, plus the green plants on the right gives a nice feel to this scene as well. You get the feeling that it would be nice to see in side the tree with it being dark,is there some think living there.
How cool would it be to come back here in the evening when the highlights are blue from the sky, and place a flashlight or some sort of battery-operated light with a red gel over the lens, in that trunk, then toss some dry ice in there to create a fog? Hallowe'en is not that far off.

Very interesting subject matter and very good clarity. I love texture shots and there are so many in this capture from the soft green leaves to the bark on the tree to the broken splinters of wood in the bottom left. Great work :)
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom i trust". Psalm 91: 1 and 2
First of all, Wendell, I'm happy to see that you escaped the park and made it as far as the surrounding woods. Maybe it's just the drugs kickin' in, but this is one outstanding posting. I've always been amazed at the beauty of nature when viewed from a different perspective. The forest floor is captured with rare beauty as is the corpse of this old decaying tree. The colors and textures are perfect. I love that tiny bit of moss growing on the trunk, and I like the way that the rest of the tree fades into the distant with the DoF focused right up front.
