I'm pretty sure that this is what happens when the trees root in an area packed with rocks... they haven't anywhere else to go. I saw something similar on the Lake Superior shoreline. A fantastic find and capture, Bruce.

Bruce, I agree with 'Nik'. Mother Nature is very inventive when it comes to survive in difficult conditions.
