Our local Kmart closed on September 2. We went in a few days before closing, and there were a few things left, but 99 percent of everything including the shelves, etc were gone. It is sad because there are so many memories I have of shopping here with my mom, among others. They had a decent garden section as well. This location has been here since around 1984. When I moved here in 1993, I remember parts of the store were not connected. This store was less than a mile from Busch Gardens where I work.

It's sad to see these stores closing Alex but you do have many good memories shopping there with your Mom - online shopping has changed retail.

Alex, I don't know the reason why this store is closed now. Diminished attention of customers because of bigger facilities in the vicinity could be a reason.
I feel empathy with your nostalgic feelings because it was a familiar environment, holding many good memories to you.
It happens everywhere, and often it's (ironically) called 'progression', ☺ .
Good one, my friend!

Store closings and financial duress seems to be the theme nowadays, Alex; when I was a boy it was build, build, build, bigger and better. A part of Sears (or the other way around, can't remember) , our Kmart is still struggling although the long-time Sears closed last year, and this is in a state that had the best economy in the country two years ago, from Bakken oil money. Everything is fleeting. I can see why this store would have made an impression on a youngster, with lovely Spanish-influenced architecture like this. Ours is flat out butt-ugly.
