One of the most amazing pieces of engineering! The Falkirk Wheel in Scotland joins the Glasgow and Edinburgh canals. However there is a height difference of about 50ft. The canal boats drive into the tray of the wheel and then water and boat are lifted up to rejoin the second half of the canal. The tray is mounted within a wheel that moves as the main arms turn to keep the boat upright. The arms of the wheel are perfectly balanced and the whole wheel turns with hyrdaulics meaning it is totally silent. Not the worlds best desktop i know but i wanted to share this little known, but amazing place with you :)

Nicely composed and a good good B & W image (range of tonalities, et al). Handled the lighting challenges well.

Quite like the look you and your camera achieved here.

What's not to like?

You're right, this is quite the machine and the photo works well as a black & white; the right way to process industrial photos (who says it wouldn't make for an interesting desktop - you just have the type of computer OS that changes your desktop at intervals and add whatever photos you like). I wonder if there is a You Tube video of it working (and wouldn't that make a lovely project for someone.. hint, hint, nudge, nudge, wink, wink :) - I may just go investigate that possibility (oh, look, now you've got my mind going and that can only be dangerous). Perhaps a wider view of it could be a companion shot to this one? Thankee, miss.
