West Sister Island in Lake Erie, is only open for research one day a year. It is in the western basin of the lake not far from Toledo, Ohio. This picture was taken from Magee Marsh, south of the island. Click Here for more info about the island.

Neat shot Jim and one of those narratives that makes me want more info. Is it a wildlife sanctuary?

Jimbob - Are you one of the researchers? This reminds me of Five Islands in the Minas Basin of Nova Scotia. You chose a very good angle with the foreground flowers and trees, the lake and the island as horizon. Thad

Nice composition showing the island far away, Jimbob. I suppose it must have become quite an interesting bird sanctuary since the "Rum Runners" left long ago.

I think Cinderella would have liked the once a year visit only with her stepsisters. A good composition JimboB. Wouldn't it be nice to go there with the camera.

---open for research one day a year---

That will be not sufficient to find the bottles of prohibition-era alcohol on the bottom of the lake around the island, lol.
Good post Jimbob.

Nicely done once again, and a keeper. Nice foreground to enjoy also. This reminds me a bit of the Sleeping Giant, in Lake Superior, off the coast of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

I really like all those wildflowers in the foreground along the shoreline and how perfectly round the island off shore is...one day a year? They better make the most of those 24 hours! Thanks for sharing Jimbob and I like that interesting tidbit about the island!
