Took a drive up the valley on Sunday to get closer to the snow. The light was weird and most of my photos were rubbish. I did a bit on tonemapping on this one to bring out some detail on the foreground. The farm buildings in the front give some perspective. I like the late afternoon sun shining on the lower hills. Not long after this is rained ! Canon 450D.

I think you did well with this photo against the bright light Lyn. The sky and the snow covered mountains look beautiful.

That's some amazing light on the middle range of mountains, between the snow-covered range and the foothills, Lyn. and yes, the clouds are a little weird but when you have successive layers in place as the sun is dropping, some are over-lit while others are cast in the shadows of others. Nothing affects our photos quite like atmospheric idiosyncracies. I've noticed that sort of thing in old oil paintings as far back as the renaissance.

I agree with Nik about that light Lyn but I think this one is beautiful and the glint of light hitting the mid-range is spectacular.

If one will only view this image only at thumbnail size, one miss the chance to view a breathtaking sight in full detail.
