This beautiful fountain was sculpted in 1912, a gift to the people of Oamaru, NZ by a local JP, James Craig.
It stopped working in the 1990's and has recently been restored, along with the two drinking fountains of the same vintage. It is made of Italian marble and is a registered Category II Heritage Structure.
The restoration required it to be dismantled and large surrounding areas dug up, and took several months to complete. I was delighted last week to see it working once more after so many years.

I too am glad they brought back to working order. This is a very nice image and I like your presentation with text added. This would make a nice post for their travel site. tigs=^..^=

What a great gift to the town. Good framing with the greenery background for contrast.

Something as beautiful as this is worth the effort to preserve it. All too often, here in the states, our history is trashed to order to modernize and profitize.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
