Benmore Dam is the largest earth dam in New Zealand and at 118 metres tall is also the highest. Behind it is New Zealand's largest man-made lake (Lake Benmore,75 square kilometres which has a volume of 1.25 billion cubic metres).
It is always a thrill to see the spillway in action. This was taken in February 2020 when it kindly obliged while our son (in the photo) was home from England.
Possibly my entry for the current contest.

An impressive and wonderful sight, Lyn. I can almost hear of the roaring sound of the artificial water fall.
Would be a perfect entry for the contest.
If it will be your entry, I wish you the Best of Luck with it!

This is a tremendous capture and the scene is spectacular. I have to admit, I hope at some point we will be able to visit New Zealand, nature has blessed your country with magnificent treasures. Excellent work on this photo.

Kia Ora and a great shot, Lyn. A good entry choice that gets even better upon enlargement. The only thing missing is the sound of all that pounding water. I can imagine it though; we have a large earthen dam (2 miles wide) here that had to have record releases during a ^thousand-year flood^, in 2011, and the sound of the spillway release was deafening. Good luck in the contest.
