An extreme wide angle view of the captains cabin of the ship Scorpion. A ramming ship once designed to crush wooden ships! The image is rather distorted, but the ceiling is indeed quite low. What fascinated me is that the captains chair is in an awkward position. One little move back would irreversibly lead to a big move down...

Whoa, he sure had a gorgeous office/cabin Paul. Beautiful colours, wood and textures.

Everything here looks ship-shape, Cap'n. Perhaps they only turned the desk around when it became a tourist stop so visitors could see how it looked from behind. If I were the captain, I'd like to see just who was coming through the doorway. I love the shot with the inclusion of the hung up uniform.

Good show, Paul. We lost many a captain in the old day because of holes like that one.

I use a 10-20mm lens every so often, particularly lately photo-documenting a huge expansion to the building I work in. I use this wide lens because the expansion is so large and I unfortunately get a lot of distortion. Any distortion you might be apologizing for in this photo, Paul, is nowhere near as bad as mine, is the kind I expect to see in a low-ceiling room like this and, in fact, I think it enhances the claustrophobic feeling of such a room. I think you did a heck of a job with this shot (surprise, surprise!) and so does my wife -- her words were "Ooooh wow!" -- and she's not easily impressed by photos (I'm sorry to say 8P). With your kind permission I'm going to send a copy of this one to some historian friends of mine. They'll love it, too, I'm sure. The preservation in this room is amazing and your submission helps to provide this wee trip to a museum to many more than just those who visit the ship. Thanks loads for taking and sharing it.
