I think these beauties were in the scholar's mind when the term "gossamer wings" was penned. My favorite bug (tied with the praying mantis) because they don't bite, aren't really afraid of using us as a mooring mast, and they gobble up mosquitos, one of my least favorite bugs (tied with house flies). For those of you who sometimes confuse dragonflies with damselflies, just remember that when they land, the damsel folds its wings while the dragon cannot.
