This is an excellent macro, Jeff; the seasoned eye spots undersides as well as tops. The strong contrasts within the bug, sharp lines in red-orange and black, are a perfect contrast themselves to the blue and green tendrils on outside of the closed petals. The subdued lighting also greatly enhances the image with no burning from excess direct light. The bug, incidentally, which I initially believed to be a boxelder, is actually an adult milkweed bug, Oncopeltus fasiatus, which I discovered when your fine photograph pushed me to research it more [The Story of an Organism: Common Milkweed, by Craig Holdrege, Nature Institute]. Saved to my favorites file and into my desktop wallpaper folder, thanks.
