Such elegant birds. Well, even if there's no fish, I'd bet he wouldn't turn down the occasional salamander or frog--they seem to appear almost anywhere. As a boy I was planting trees on a farm hill, 200 yards away from a stock pond, and was using the shovel handle to poke holes in the newly turned soil at the tree's base so I could then run water down the hole to the roots. After pouring water for less than a minute a salamander came crawling out of that small hole. I have no idea where he came from, underground like that. Nature can be so surprising.
