I too have seen these old schoolhouses before...always interesting to see the interior of these old buildings and get a sense of life as it once was...great shot.

I expected a blackboard but maybe back then they had individual 'slates' I must be very old because I have memories of using a slate. I hated the sound of the chalk against it ! You have captured a piece of history here :)

I'm betting this was a repurposed structure, possibly a farmhouse in which the owner had installed a conventional fireplace. Later, as a one-room school, the pot-bellied wood stove would have provided more efficient heating. Interesting history.
