There was a time when Arkansas was a leading producer of apples in the United States, and their bounty of apples earned them the nickname "The Land of the Big Red Apple." For this reason, the apple blossom was chosen to be Arkansas' state flower in 1901. I figured that since it is such a pretty blossom, it had to be SOMEONES state flower... and there we are.
