I found the markings of this bird in the Desert Dome particularly interesting.

This is a blacksmith plover. Because it is resting in the sand like this, its long identifying legs are hidden. The blacksmith plover is a lapwing species that occurs commonly from Kenya through central Tanzania to southern and southwestern Africa. The name derives from the repeated metallic *tink, tink, tink* alarm call, which suggests a blacksmith*s hammer striking an anvil. Another outstanding capture from the zoo, Jeff.
