An osprey? With those feathers sticking up on its head I thought for sure it was a Harpy Eagle. Perhaps it is all the chromatic aberration I am seeing here? You have an excellent eye for the shots you take, Paul, but I am thinking that perhaps you need either an upgrade on your camera, or lenses, or both. Before my wife and I visited Glacier National Park in 2010, celebrating a wedding anniversary milestone, I upgraded my 12mp DSLR Canon for an 18mp, and the change in the quality of the photos I got was dramatic. Three years ago I upgraded again, to a 24mp, with the same results. I highly recommend it, particularly considering your skill level.

Paul, its attitude says it clear: "Don't get any closer." He is probably breeding or preparing to do so. In such a situation, it has a heightened sense of defending its (future) offspring.
If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins!

Paul, definitely, this Osprey has thoughts in those eyes. It may be in the continuation of nest building or in further collection of food. But, you captured the moment when such thoughts may have crossed his mind.
Wow, there is so much you can read into the "stare" of this Osprey .... good idea to take this photo... and the result is perfect. I can imagine countless ideas for this "look" ... like, "What do you mean you forgot to get dinner?"
