Too me the look on its face, describes the plight of the buffalo in the U.S. There used to be big herds before they were plundered. The Native Americans knew how to treat and respect this powerful animal. Outstanding shot, Raj.
Yes, you do not want to get up close and personal with a buffalo. They are often ill-tempered and always unpredictable. Although they stand between 5 and 6-1/2 feet tall and can weigh up to a ton, they are quick to react and fast on the run, upwards of 40 mph+. Several years ago I was photographing a male giving himself a dust bath, in a wooded glade, from about 20 feet away. Close, yes, but I kept all of me but the camera hidden behind a tree, one that I could scale quickly if necessary. He would stop, now and then, to give me a look, but because he didn't see all of me he went back to his bath. The same precautions should be made when photographing elk in the wild; one ended up chasing me through a hundred yards of trees before I was able to convince him I was actually leaving him and his lady alone.

A few years ago at the Berlin zoo a young female employee of the zoo went into the enclosure to put out some branches with leaves for the bisons. A bull suddenly turned on her. She ran but he caught up and gored her. She died on the spot. I was behind the fence when I took the photo.
Now that's a lot of bull, lol. Oh my goodness what a terrible accident to happen to a caretaker. It's a good thing your behind the fence, but he gave you a wonderful profile to capture. Excellent detail and lighting
Big fella...ain't he!..wouldn't like to tangle with him!
