This is an odd photo, I know, but I wanted to share my love of reading, believing very much they have an incredibly positive worth for us all. So, I place this unusual photo to simply bring you this message, really like the following quote. A book is made from a tree. It is an assemblage of flat, flexible parts (still called leaves). Imprinted with dark pigmented squiggles. One glance at it and you hear the voice of another person, perhaps someone dead for thousands of years. Across the millennia, the author is speaking, clearly and silently, inside your head, directly to you. Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people, citizens of distant epochs, who never knew one another. Books break the shackles of time; proof that humans can work magic. Carl Sagan Thanks for viewing and commenting.

Vicki, your picture, as a whole, like nature, is a harmonious portrait of the model described by Luc Ferry. The book and the plate are both nourishment to your body and soul. Both given a place mat at your table and accented with the beautiful vase of white flowers.

Vicki, to me your photograph isn't an odd one, but a perfect visualization of what you described in your narrative and in the written text in the note book. I was able to read the latter by enlarging your photograph, so I could read the written text as: "Excerpt from: a brief history of thought .......From the point of view stoic theoria - and those temporary manifestations known as catastrophes - the cosmos is essential harmonious. And, as we...." (and so on).
I agree fully with your 'statement' (😁). What a poor world we would have without books. Some are very inspirational, while other ones have a doubtful or propagandist content. But the persons with a common sense are able to interpret correctly the contents. The Holy Bible says: "Search and you will find." Therefore it's my motto too.

What a great shot Vicki - I read about 2-3 books a week - of course in this era it's on an e-reader! Excellent entry for the contest!

My mother taught me the alphabet when I was four years old, sounding out each letter and explaining how they piece together into words and how the words change and sound. Later that same year I started reading the photo captions in her encyclopedias, able to tie the words to the imagery. By the time of first grade I was reading her Readers* Digest condensed books, and seeing the consternation of the nuns and lay teachers who then tried to figure out what to have me read. My siblings were schmucks who were older and wanted nothing to do with me, so most of my childhood friends were books, taking me on adventures and teaching me all manner of things. Today my dream living room has a full wall of book-filled cases. So far I have the books but have yet to build the shelves. Perhaps next year, when I can get my Carl Sagan books out of the basement and onto living room shelves. I appreciate the sentiment your submission raises. Kudos.
