The outward bound sailing container ship MSC Koroni had to stop its engine to give the pilot vessel the opportunity to go alongside in order transfer the pilot. This maneuvering has caused 'some' air pollution.

On the left one can see the 'mammoth' container ship Leverkusen Express

Image was taken on a hazy day off the Belgian coast near the port of Zeebrugge.

I've seen the hot rods of young studs do this when they hit the brakes, after revving their vehicle down the street. It's often accompanied by what sounds like a series of shotgun blasts, the cylinders rapidly burning off the excess fuel pushed into them by a heavy foot. I look at this image and no longer wonder why these craft sometimes lose cargo in a violent storm. "Yer only stayin' a week, Martha... ya gotta pack for a month?"

In black and white the smoke looks stronger. Nice capture of the two ships - one outbound and one inbound.

I fear the pilot vessel will suffer from "second hand smoke," SEA.
The ships sure dwarf the pilot vessel. I must say I like it in b/w. Makes the smoke more dominant.

Both of those container ships are massive Mr. C. - the pilot boat gives us great perspective and the B&W does set off the smoke.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Outstanding B/W image and capture - The smoke would definitely look darker in this type of image - I really like it and thanks for the links - the one on the left is really huge.
