On my way to a photo shoot, I was driving on a local road on the peninsula Walcheren, Zeeland, The Netherlands

Suddenly my eyes caught this scene. Thought initially that it would be a perfect subject for Manic Monday, but after some research, I knew the story behind this scene: a young driver caused a collision with his car. The car became not maneuverable anymore and drove at high speed against the tree.

I suppose that it's not necessary to tell you the rest of the story. A tragedy indeed.

A sad scene and one all too common here in Toronto where oftentimes you may drive by a corner or intersection and see a floral memorial left to mark and remember where some tragedy has taken place...such a colorful display of flowers and little hearts almost seems to contradict the somber event...but perhaps it is intended as a happy memory of the victim or victims and hopefully will bring comfort to those who know and have been affected...a lovely capture, SEA, despite the circumstances.

I like how they decorated the tree in remembrance of the family member. Most of the time around here you see handcrafted crosses. So sad, and I hope this helps them to heal. tigs=^..^=

People do something similar here. Several years ago a local boy got drunk and drove his car into a tree at high speed, killing all four of his friends that were riding with him. Today he's in prison, making TV commercials against driving drunk, and that tree is surrounded and wrapped with flowers, toys, caps, clothing, and laminated messages from the four families broken by the deaths of their sons. A sobering subject (not to be punnish), C., one that is as much photojournalism as anything.

A beautiful remembrance.

In my country family members often place white wooden crosses at such sites along with floral tributes. Some people object. I don't because it is a comfort to the bereaved and also acts as a reminder to people to drive with care.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

It is something like a memorial, for those who have lost someone!..

Tragic indeed.

We have quite a few such reminders on German roads because of accidents mostly caused by reckless driving Cornelius. On some country roads you see wooden crosses - in memory of the dead and also as a warning for the reckless drivers. Nice shot.

We too have memorials on roadsides where something tragic happened SEA. It is always sad to see one, whether it be flowers, a cross or both. The trees generally win when battling with a car. Very nice shot of a memorial.

We also have similar type of markings Mr. C. - they always make me think so perhaps they do have an effect on driving more carefully. This one is unusual and well worth the photo.

Reading through the comments it's apparent that memorials to those we lost on roadways is as universally common, unfortunately, as stupidity in driving. I taught both of my sons to drive on the small roads in our local cemetery--turnings, parking, passing, etc.--as a reminder that if they drove like a fool who thinks he knows everything, then they'd likely end up in the cemetery as a permanent resident.

That is a super find just to remind everyone to slow down and drive properly. A truly sad story - like the way the decorate the tree as a memory.
