Horses can get a lot of sleep while standing up, but they lie down when they require REM sleep. Typically, the amount of REM sleep they require is very small, so they don't need to lie down often. This little one appears to be getting in a post-lunch (from mom) nap, something that I would occasionally do in the last couple years I was still working (diabetes was, of course, partly responsible for that). Nice mother and child capture, C.
