this capture shows a restored farmstead on the peninsula South-Beveland, Zeeland, The Netherlands. Its name is 'Veldzicht' (Field View) and it was built in 1700.

The barn got a new roof. Its color caught my attention, the more because of the surrounding colors of a natural frame (blooming trees) as well. A colorful peek a boo.

Wonderful capture, so neat, sharp. And I don't mind this little house, either. LOL

The roof is very sharp and steep..I believe this would be to keep the inside cooler and the snow to clear quicker!...

great point of view for this one!

Think of all the history this building has withstood over the past 318 years! And it is looking so much better at its age than I at mine. ;)

Planning and designing a Japanese-styled workshop to then build in my backyard, I'm picturing the interior structure of that triple-doored section. The length of those dormers is unlike anything I've seen before. Do you have an idea of the purpose of the building? Is that long roof with the reverse-crenellation for a particular purpose or simply a style found in Holland? Veeeeerry neat. S&F.

Referring to 'Nik''s comment above: the design of the barn was mainly determined by the size of the doors. Ancient Dutch farms had these large, high, double doors to drive a horse and high-loaded wagon through the doors, in order to load and unload the harvest in the workspace of a barn. The workspace was also used to thresh the grain. The part where this happens is called the threshing floor.
