Asansör (elevator) was built in 1907 as a work of public service by Nesim Levi Bayraklıoğlu; a wealthy Jewish banker and trader of that period. This is one of the landmarks of Izmir. This old building has been restored recently and now in service of public use for free. On top end there is a cafeteria with a great scene of Izmir city. Very nice place with live music and delicious food and drinks. Asansör is 56 meters high and now has modern twin lifts in the tower. First elevator was run by steam power. The bricks to build this tower are from France, Marcilly. Tanju

This one gives a much better overall view of the location when compared with your detailed post of yesterday,Tanju. I do have a better idea now of the impressiveness of the construction.
Must be great to have a drink in the cafetaria meanwhile enjoying the panoramic view over Izmir.
Very fine post.
Regards, Cornelius.

As Cornelius said, this does give a clearer view of how impressive the tower is. Fine work, Tanju.

I have never seen an elevator like this, incredible! :) Thank you also for including the history of the tower, knowing that makes the excellent photographs you took of it (especially the dusk one) even more special. :) Have a great day!

Beautiful architecture, interesting history, and an excellent shot with beautiful lighting, depth-of-field, and diagonal balance of the tower versus the bush in the foreground and the eatery covering both. I seldom place verticals in my favorites file, since they doesn't conform to any of my screens' horizontal character, but this one's an exception. Thanks for sharing it with us.
