Many in the US probably know that in the area where I live we are experiencing massive wildfires, most of which were lightning caused. One which was not is the Eagle Creek Fire, which is currently the No.1 ranked fire in the US. It was caused by a teenager shooting off a smoke bomb. As of this morning, it was 36,000 acres and is 11% contained. Most of what you see in this photo has been impacted by the fire.I think much of the hillside on the right is gone. Below you can see Interstate 84, a major east-west means of goods (along with the Columbia River here) to the Portland area. The Interstate is currently closed and expected to remain so for a week. Embers from the fire flew across the Columbia and there was also major burning on the other side. Taken last year from Crown Point, Oregon, USA.

Really unbelievable Ted. Think one has to blame the parents too, because the awareness for nature wasn't probably a part in their education/raising program.

Such beautiful scenery now ruined because of someone being so stupid! Do you know if the careless teen was charged with any crime? I certainly hope so! Like Mr. C. it probably goes back to the parents, and their teaching right from wrong, and respect. That kind of stuff really gets my goat! tigs=^..^

That's too bad. I mean, controlled burning is a good thing for forests--removing excess fire fuel, helping pine cone seeds to germinate, etc.--but dumb accidents and dry weather can cause so much anxiety and destruction. An excellent photo, Ted. I wish it still looked this way. Right now, way over here in North Dakota, we are getting much of your same smoke, blanking out the horizon and causing breathing difficulties for asthma sufferers. It shows in the photos I just took in SD and WY.
