The orange looks like an interpretation of the fires associated with battle, the way I remember warrior movies were introduced back in the 60's and 70's. It must be a wallpaper (?) because I'm seeing a slight crosshatch pattern in some of the red, the kind of texture a camera picks up whether we want it to or not. Here, I think it enhances the image.

Smiles at the fiery, persimmon orange. No one can accuse Napoleon of subtlety. Still, it does compliment the sculpture.
I have to admit that I suffered a moment of horror, when (at first glance) it looked as if the ground soldier was swinging his own severed left arm at the horseman. Eek! But a closer look revealed that he's actually holding a club. Whew! Still gruesome mind you, but less gruesome.
