The youngest son found himself with a bit of time on his hands so he was up visiting for a little while last month. I decided to drive him back home to the Bay Area so we could spend even more time together before he went back to work and we passed Mt. Shasta on the way. A few days later devastating wild fires broke out in the California wine country and the smoke filtered all the way up to where I live in the central part of Oregon. In coming back home, I stopped at this exact place and the smoke was so strong, one could barely see the trees in the foreground, and forget about getting a glimpse of the mountain. Near Weed, California, USA.

Whoah!! It's a good thing the tracking system on that guided missile was off a few degrees; it just barely missed the mountain! It does appear, unfortunately, that a previous missile did nail the peak on the right, though. Mountain terrorists are so shameful.

A great composition, Ted. Mount Sasha is impressive on its own, but with such a terrific sky, the impressiveness has even been increased.
I agree with Sandi that those fires were awful!

This is awesome Ted. My wife's daughter - previous marriage - lives in La Pine, Oregon and before that, Bend, Oregon, so I have driven past Mt. Shasta at least a dozen times. It a spectacular mountain and I love visiting Weed. The city, not the plant LOL!!! They have that bakery that has fabulous sandwiches and pastry!! A great shot of the old mountain from the north. I've got several images myself. I might post them some day, you know, after the buzzzz has died down a bit from your post:):):) Good work buddy:)
p.s. For a real treat take the train from anywhere north of here to south. What a blast. I rode the Amtrak from Martinez, Ca. to Klamath Falls, Oregon once and the train goes along the base of the mountain. What a beautiful ride:)

Well, you know my area then, since I'm just about 15 miles north of Bend, in Redmond. Thanks for your post.
