St. Stephens Green began as a marshy area on the edge of the city, but a wall was built around it in 1663 and property encircling that wall was sold to the upper classes. During the Easter Rising of 1916 there was a days-long battle here between the citizen army and the British; but there was a ceasefire in the middle of battle so the groundsmen could feed the ducks. Today, St. Stephens Green is in the middle of city, a green respite from urban sights and sounds. I was able to catch this crane looking for lunch while I was crossing a bridge on the Green on my way to the other side. Dublin, Ireland; September, 2016.
